Planning & Land Management

Planning and Land Management departments utilize GIS software in city and county management to access maps and share common base information along with specific local GIS data. The details are meaningful to infrastructure workers and managers, as well as interested citizens.

Related documents and OnBase Workflow queues are automatically linked to features on geographical maps, providing single-click access to relevant content. This increases user efficiency, decreases document retrieval delays and ultimately supports timely and accurate decision making.

Map Application Users

Planning departments are typically organized into three sections – long range planning, current planning, and building permits and inspections. The documents that need to be associated with map features vary dependent upon each of these segments.

Long range planning usually involves city planners, city engineers, developers or surveyors, zoning administrators, planning commissioners and interested citizens reviewing documents such as parcel mapping, five-year action plans, meeting minutes, as-builts plans, elevations, land use code documents, easements and variances, zoning ordinance documents, GIS maps and aerial or site photos.

Current planning includes the creation and review of a variety of document types including project documentations, the general plan, commission meeting agendas and more by city planners and surveyors.

Building permits and inspections divisions are comprised of building inspectors, code administrators, the customer service department and citizens of the city. Daily work includes reference to document types such as permits and inspections application files, building permits and service work orders applications.

The OnBase Payoff

  • Multiple users can view documents simultaneously, each with the ability to search through all available content and find the exact documents they need using import and retrieval features.
  • Scanned documents – including maps, as-builts, CAD drawings, legal documents (e.g., deeds and title records) equipment manuals and schematics, and survey records – gain added context when they are associated with geographic features.
  • Intuitive composite applications improve daily workflows and provide new, time-saving capabilities.
  • Inspectors create activity lists from spatial queries; field staffs inspect, verify, and update databases; and analysts track down problems and map their locations.
